Waterbury names Italian-American as mayor for a day

The city of Waterbury is starting its Columbus Day celebration a little early. Every October the city names an Italian-American as mayor for a day. He gets a small parade downtown, and a ceremony outside City Hall.

This year's honoree is John Sarlo. He served in the Korean War, spent years on the city council, and has supported every event honoring veterans. "Because your whole life, John, is dedicated to not only the Italian culture, but to the city of Waterbury, its people and to the betterment of not only this city, but the state of Connecticut," said Rep. Jeffrey Berger, (D) Waterbury.
