Nicolas Addeo and Peter Lucia, producers, have revealed today that their current project is about Dr. Henry Viscardi, a champion innovator in the struggle for the rehabilitation and rights of severely disabled people. "He was the son of Italian immigrants," says Addeo, "and was born with small twisted stumps for legs. His story is one of self-determination, physical and social struggle, family love, romance...

He developed a new philosophy that allowed the severely handicapped to enter society as productive citizens with pride of purpose. With him, it was abilities rather than disabilities. We know that such a film would be a revelation, because it brings to light the dramatic, really heartwarming tale of a man whose name should be generally known."

An inspiration and object of great endearment for all who knew him, Viscardi went on to achieve a successful career in business and later to found institutions that teach, employ and study the disabled. He headed the first-of-its-kind disabled veterans unit for Water Reed Hospital during WWII and eventually created the National Center for Disability Services in Albertson, N.Y. His influence on issues affecting the handicapped included advising every president from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter; giving four or more speeches a week; and writing eight books and numerous articles on his subject. He has schools named after him and he has received honorary doctorates from many countries, in the Americas, Europe as well as Asia.

He passed away in 2004, age 91, leaving his wife, Lucile, four daughters, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Addeo and Lucia are currently seeking investors interested in the project. Their first goal is to employ a major screenwriter.
