To mount a social media campaign to defend the legacy of Christopher Columbus and what he means to Italian-Americans. Columbus Day is celebrated in many of the countries in the Americas for the anniversary of his arrival to the New World on October 12, 1492. He originally set out to sail for India under King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. He made a total of four voyages between 1492 and 1498 where he explored Caribbean islands and areas of Central and South America.
He is a symbol of Italians all over the world . Moreover , he is the pride of every Italo-American and an important part of our history. We, the millions of Italo-Americans are proud of what he stands for and what he accomplished . For us, he is a “ HERO” a navigator / explorer from the at that time a thriving seaport city of Genoa, Italy, that now celebrates his birth .
