Pisticci is a hilly town in the province of Matera, in Basilicata, which extends between the rivers Basento and Cavone, to the coast of the Ionian Sea, where Marina di Pisticci is located.
Remarkable is the Castle of San Basilio, born as a fortified farm at the hands of the Basilian monks in the seventh century, and then fortified by the Normans. Today the building, which houses an art collection, preserves the refectory and kitchens, the dormitory, the library room, the chapter house and the chapel, dominated by an imposing square tower.
