Stop if you’ve heard this before, but a tourist has been caught red-handed carving letters into an historic Italian landmark. After a scourge of scrawlers at Rome’s Colosseum, this week’s misbehaviour moves north to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
A French 19-year-old has been detained by police after she was caught by an employee carving a love heart with her initial and that of her boyfriend’s into the 12th century building. It was reported by the La Repubblica newspaper that she used her bracelet to make the markings. She allegedly told officers that “there were other things written” there, so she didn't think she was doing anything wrong.
