Gelato roses bloom on Newbury Street

Roses are blooming at the new gelato cafe, Amorino, on Newbury Street, the first New England franchise for the French chain with shops worldwide. The signature scoop is the shape of a flower perched on a waffle cone, and each petal can be made of a different gelato or sorbet flavor from a list of 23 ($5.50 to $14).

Italian childhood friends, Cristiano Sereni and Paolo Benassi, started the business in Paris in 2002. Flavors are shipped from the City of Light, where they're churned with quality all-natural and organic ingredients, and come in choices like pistachio with nuts sourced in Sicily; Alphonso mango from India; Madagascar vanilla; and tiramisu blended with mascarpone.
