Iona College is pleased to present its Fifth Annual Professional Development Workshop on Teaching Italian Culture. The colloquium wishes to provide an overview of new perspectives while promoting awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity, values, attitudes, and assumptions that impact the teaching of Italian.

A variety of teaching strategies will be presented and, as in previous years, speakers will focus on communication strategies, language uses and controls, contextualized grammatical paradigms, as well as how to use contemporary films and TV series (fiction, daily shows and talk show) pop music and musicals, newspapers and magazines, modern poetry and theater for global and local themes. Regional and National identity and communities, economic and social issues, science and technology, gender, slow food-fast food, beauty and the broad concept of the Made in Italy will be some of the themes presented in this year's session.

We will also discuss new teaching strategies, applications (Web 2 Tools) and formats (blended class, hybrid and in-class).
