3rd Bilingual Fair Celebrates The Bilingual Education Revolution

Oct 06, 2016 440

The 3rd Bilingual Fair in NYC will be held on October 15, 2016 at Hunter College (9am to 5pm). For the third year in a row, the bilingual education community will be in a single space. Founder, Emmanuel Saint Martin comments, "All over the US, more and more parents realize giving a bilingual education to their children is an amazing gift. We founded the NYC Bilingual Fair to help them make the choices that will give their children an education adapted to today's world".

The Colgate Center for Language and the Brain predicts that by 2050, 85 percent of the world's population will be multilingual. Currently, less than 25% Americans speak more than one language. The importance of multilingualism for our economy, our security and culture has never been so great.

Classes are available throughout New York City, in both private and public education. In September, the city added 38 new bilingual programs in public schools, bringing the total to nearly 200. "The strength of New York City comes from our tremendous diversity, said Mayor Bill de Blasio. Not only do our students and families thrive through bilingual programs and by learning a new language and culture – the entire City does."

This upcoming event is the premier event for anyone interested in the movement that's changing the face of so many schools in the city and the country. The exhibitors (schools, publishers, educators, businesses) practice and promote bilingual education in languages including French, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Polish and more.

More and more, parents understand the benefits of a bilingual education for their children. There are many proven reasons to raise bilingual kids, from maintaining their heritage to preparing them for a globalized world. We have created New York's first Bilingual Education Fair to help parents answer difficult questions.

Our panel discussions will address:

–Understanding the bilingual mind & brain, with Paola Giuli Dussias, Ph.D, Professor at Penn State University.

–Dual Language Programs: a revolution in NYC schools, with superintendent Alicja Winnicki and principals from NYC schools.

-Becoming teacher in a bilingual program, with Brian Collins, Hunter College.

-Why German? with the Goethe Institute and Consulate of Germany.

More than 80 schools (in 12 languages), publishers, and experts will be on hand at this interactive, fun-filled event to answer your questions. La Scuola d'Italia Guglielmo Marconi, IACE, and the P.S. 112 Lefferts Park (Brooklyn) will be present as exhibitors.
