On Sunday, many headed to Hutchinson Square in Summerville for the 7th Annual Italian Festival. The family-fun event featured Italian-inspired music and food. Jay Lombardo, the Executive Director of the Summerville Italian Festival, said the event serves a bigger cause to the community. Money raised at the fest goes back in to Dorchester District Two school district.
"The reason that we put this on is for the community service, but the biggest goal is to help out with the S.T.E.M. program, which is with Dorchester District Two Educational Foundation. 100% of it does," Lombardo explained. He said he was first inspired to throw the event because the month of October is Italian-American Heritage Month.
