An innocent throwback Instagram post has gotten Madonna into a little bit of trouble. On Monday, Madonna posted an interview of herself from the 1980s to her Instagram Stories where she said, “If there are 100 people in a room and 99 say they liked it, I only remember the one person who didn’t.”
While that may sound innocuous to most, many Lady Gaga fans saw it as a pointed swipe at the singer, who has been quoted numerous times during her press tour for A Star Is Born saying, “There can be 100 people in a room and 99 of them don’t believe in you, but all it takes is one and it just changes your whole life.” It’s an oft-repeated compliment to the film’s director and her co-star, Bradley Cooper, and a linguistic crutch to get her through the endless press requirements of awards season. But if you’re Madonna, it might also be yet another way Gaga has cribbed her style.
