The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has awarded 8 Honorary Fellowship Awards for the year 2017. Recipients include Italian architect Mario Cucinella and architect Giancarlo Mazzanti, winner of the 2016 edition of the Next Landmark contest sponsored by Floornature. The Honorary Fellowship Award is an annual award for architects who are not US citizens or residents whose work has made an important social and environmental contribution on the world architecture scene.

The macro-goals established by the judges for the choice of candidates include making the profession of architecture of ever-increasing service to society, improving people’s standards of living through an improved environment, promoting the aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of architecture, etc.
