Sausage and peppers sizzled at two Montalbano's food trucks on opposite ends of Centre Street Saturday at Historic Richmond Town. In between, revelers descended on "Rome Through Richmond Town" for live entertainment, eats such as pizza and fresh mozzarella plus complimentary shots of Punzone, an Italian-made, organic vodka imported by Staten Islander Frank Guerrera.
This event, now in its second year, fetes Italian-American culture. It is scheduled on Columbus Day weekend in place of the long-running New Dorp Lane parade that Borough President James P. Oddo said had become a sparsely attended event. Oddo's office, by the way, organized the day along with the Historical Society. Attracting about 1,000 visitors to the living history village, "Rome Through Richmond Town" might be a comparative success to the parade.
