About the Exhibition: New Digital Realities in Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography Agora Gallery presents Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography, a globe-trotting collection of contemporary images spanning nature, architecture, social commentary, and technical experimentation. A compelling element of Illumination is that it explores the possibilities of digital photography in a deep, thoughtful way that is usually only reserved for traditional cameras and film. The six artists included in Illumination each use the storytelling aspect of photography in radically different ways. One photographer lights clean, geometrical architecture to best underline its tactile quality - a fresh, intimate perspective on structures that are sometimes seen as large-scale or impersonal. Similarly, one artist photographs car details in shockingly bright colors and extreme close-up, inviting the viewer into a relationship with these manmade vehicles.

There is an artist who creates surrealistic, symbolic images of modern consumerism, while another seeks to capture everyday life in some of the most remote places on earth with warm empathy. There is a photographer who turns real landscapes into imaginary spaces. The final two participants are abstract photographers who break new ground in the digital format with their experiments in saturation, exposure, and printing. Illumination opens May 19, 2017 and runs through June 8, 2017 with an opening reception on May 25 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.
