Since 1991, IAWA has given voice to writers through its Open Reading series every second Saturday of the month at the Cornelia Street Café. IAWA East is now held alternate months at Sidewalk Café, (August, October and December) and readings continue at Cornelia Street Café on odd months (September.)

WHO: Joseph Sciorra is a folklorist, flash fiction writer and blogger.

He is also the Associate Director for Academic and Cultural Programs at Queens College's John D. Calandra Italian American Institute, as well as editor of social science journal Italian American Review and Italian Folk: Vernacular Culture in Italian-American Lives.

Michael Steffen, author of three poetry collections, won the Bordighera Prize for his work, Heart Murmur, in 2009. His latest book is Bad Behavior from Brick Road Poetry Press, published in 2012. A graduate of the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Vermont College, he currently resides in Lancaster, New York.

Event kicks off with Open Mic readings of five minutes.
