There will be a one-time screening of “My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes,” a film about Italians who helped hide and protect Jewish people during the Holocaust, starting at 7 p.m. tonight at Proctors. The movie will be shown at the GE Theatre at 432 State St. Liora Kelman, known as La Rabinessa of the Congregation Beth Israel, will also share stories about her family’s history during that time — according to the film’s flyer, “The Saranos of Milan were saved in the small Italian village of Mobaroccio during the Holocaust.”
Tickets are $5. Reservations can be made by visiting this website or by calling the box office at 518-346-6204. “My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes” features several key individuals in this movement, including Tour de France cycling champion, voiced by Oscar nominee Robert Loggia, as well as Dr. Giovanni Borromeo. The doctor hid Jews in a hospital in Rome, inventing a fake disease in order to defend the building, according to the flyer. More stories are told by descendants of rescuers and survivors.
