Casa Lago Press and Anthony Socci Announces the Release of the Italian History Nonfiction paperback, “United We Stand: Pre WW II-Chronicles of the Italian Colony of Stamford,” a comprehensive history of pre-WW II Italians of the City of Stamford, CT, available at bookstores currently (including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, alibis.com).
It is well known that Italian Americans have made important contributions to every aspect of Stamford society; making it a better place (influencing architecture, art, business, culture, cuisine, and sports, bravely serving the nation, fighting for and pioneering entitlements, health administration, public policy, and workplace protections).
But less mentioned is what they had to overcome before they could be in the position to do so, and even less about their ingenuity in surmounting these obstacles (including bias). Standing united enabled them to propel forward against overwhelming opposition. How did they do it?
The author is the son of Italian-American immigrants and was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. As such, he was surrounded by Italian culture, which stimulated his deep admiration and respect for Italy, Italians, and their culture. As a writer with a passion for preserving history for future generations, he became inspired when he was unable to find a comprehensive history of Stamford Italian Americans. This launched his mission to honor and tell the stories of Italians in his home city. The research has been a labor of love, and infinitely rewarding. He hopes through telling these stories, he can spark a renewed engagement of pride and inspiration for not only the local community but beyond.
A book signing is scheduled for June 2nd, at 2 pm at the Stamford Historical Society (1508 High Ridge Rd. Stamford, CT 06903). For more information call 203-329-1183.
