Portraits Offer Glimpse At Sagamore's Italian Ties

The Bourne Historical Society has received two portraits, dating back more than 110 years, courtesy of local author John F. Carafoli. The portraits depict Italian immigrants Luigi and Inez Carafoli, who were Mr. Carafoli's grandparents.

"I think they're a really wonderful depiction of a family who lived in Sagamore," said Mary E. Sicchio, head of collections. "They're a great addition to our collection." Sagamore was once home to a thriving, Italian neighborhood, and Ms. Sicchio said the portraits are a great reminder of that heritage.
