The Dante Alighieri Society presents some wonders of the Italian landscape through the screening of "Maratona Infernale" by director Lamberto Lambertini, an uncommon cinematographic interpretation of the Divina Commedia by Dante Alighieri which combines the power of Dante's lines with evocative images describing the complexity of Italy

The screening will be supported by a photographic exhibit displaying the Italian places which have inspired the Authors of the network I Parchi Letterari® ("Literary Landscapes").

The event aims at introducing numerous American citizens who are fond of Italy (or the Bel Paese as Dante described it) to the wonders of the country's landscapes through the works of Lambertini carried out in numerous historic places and attractions outside of the normal tourist destinations and through an exhibition on the territories of the I Parchi Letterari® (The Literary Parks), FAI sites and Italian Touring Club:
1) The projection of 4/5 cantos of Hell. The creation of the entire I Canto rose from an idea of Paolo Peluffo and Lamberto Lambertini, feasible thanks to the considerable contribution of ARCUS. For Hell the director, Lambertini, touched on Italian identity, shooting high and low all over the Italian peninsula, stopping in the most beautiful places. Viewers will discover how a bell is made in the age-old foundry of Agnone, how the saltpans in Trapani work, how a famous Borsalino hat is created and how a Sicilian puppet is built, but that's not all. Viewers will also see, perhaps for the first time, the DC9 that was shot down from the skies of Ustica in 1980, reconstructed inside a hangar; they will admire the beautiful nineteenth century monuments and sculptures in the cemetery of Staglieno (GE) and awe in wonder at the multitude of colors of the fruit and people that work in the market of Turin, etc... Each canto lasts about 10 minutes and the director's presence will help the viewers become familiar with the films.
2) Photographic exhibition with fine art photography discovering the I Parchi Letterari® in Italy. The I Parchi Letterari®, established by the Società Dante Alighieri (Dante Alighieri Society), are a network of interesting places for their cultural, historic and architectural importance and an appeal to identity also under an economic and social profile. The goal of the Parchi networks is that of associating the elements of excellence present on the territory (cultural, productive and environmental aspects) to a coordinated network aimed at protecting and correctly using the cultural landscape, in addition to preserving and enhancing the local cultural and productive identities. Divulging the beauty of these places helps to create parallel activities on the territory from an economic point of view, increasing employment opportunities especially for the younger generations. These places are interesting from a historic point of view as well and frequently, wonderful from a landscape point of view. Explanatory panels will be combined with the fine art photography with maps and features of each single Park.
3) The Dante will be pleased to enrich the exhibit by organizing an exhibition stand with information of the FAI sites and of the Italian Touring Club. The two realities in fact contribute to spread and preserve sites among the most beautiful and evocative of our country
