Backlash over Indigenous People's Day prompts vote for Italian Heritage Day

A week after replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous People's Day, Cambridge City Council acknowledged concerns of the local Italian-American community by naming Oct. 1 Italian Heritage Day.


According to Councilor Tim Toomey, in the course of last week's vote, the council failed to recognize the contributions of Italian-Americans over the founding of the country. Toomey, along with Councilor David Maher, put forth the order to reaffirm October as Italian Heritage Month.
