The former fire station at 7510 Snow Road is now the home of the Southwest Italian American Club. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held May 8 with Mayor Tim DeGeeter and other members of council attending. The building, which was built in 1922, served as the city's first fire and police station. It is also believed that it was the first city hall.
The club's president, Jim Tricomi, said that the extensive renovation of the building took four years, and the club will hold meetings as well as fundraising events there. Tricomi thanked Ward 2 Councilwoman Debbie Lime for her assistance in getting the project done. "She was great," Tricomi said. "We can't thank her and the mayor enough."
