Academy Award winning director Taylor Hackford will present "Louis & Keely 'Live' at the Sahara" at the Royal George Theatre in Chicago from March 27 through early May. The musical tracks the electrifying on-stage chemistry and tumultuous off-stage romance of Louis Prima and Keely Smith, who reigned as entertainment royalty in Las Vegas through most of the 1950s. The show's lead performers are backed by a live seven-piece band.
"My mother was a rabid Keely Smith fan, so I grew up listening to her records," Hackford recalls. "I first saw Louis and Keely on the Ed Sullivan Show in the late '50s, and I immediately became a Louis Prima devotee. Forty years later, when I staged (the show), it was like everything had been pre-ordained."
