When Mary Rose Cuiffini, Dorothy Frontino and Irma Lombardi joked with the other Festa Italiana volunteers a few days ago, the younger workers teased them back, but with an unspoken reverence.
The three older women have earned the respect of all the volunteers with Bradford's quintessential festival after many years of dedication to the event. Earlier this week, the three festival matriarchs were found in the second-floor kitchen of La Stella Lodge making wands with other auxiliary members.
