After a contentious, vitriolic race between two local political allies-turned-rivals, county Republicans chose a new leader in former state Assemblyman Paul DiGaetano, who defeated eight-year incumbent Chairman Bob Yudin in a party election held Tuesday.
The tally showed DiGaetano with 539 votes and Yudin with 274 "Tonight I saw something I haven't seen in quite awhile in this building, this room," DiGaetano said, addressing a crowd of about 100 supporters after the results were announced. "I saw positive energy." He added, "It's about moving our Republican Party forward and getting our candidates elected in November."
