Mission San Juan Capistrano will ring the historic bells celebrating the feast of San Giovanni da Capestrano, St. John of Capestrano, Italy at 12 noon. Capestrano, Italy is located in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
San Giovanni was born in Capestrano, Italy in 1386 and died on October 23, 1456 the same day that the swallows leave San Juan Capistrano!!! Fr. Junipero Serra named the Mission after his favorite Italian saint on November 1, 1776.
Since it was a Spanish Mission it was given the Spanish name, San Juan Capistrano. The event is free with paid admission into the Mission.
