Two Napolitanos featured at Italy's Consulate in San Francisco a few days ago. Along with Italy's Head of State Giorgio, in the picture, I had to honor to host Janet, the new President of the University of California, former Homeland Security Secretary and former Governor of Arizona, in person. Janet is one of the most powerful women in America's politics, a proud Italian-American and a wonderful, approacheable human being. You can tell from the photo below.
Janet's father's family came to the US from the region around Naples. They emigrated to the East Coast and then settled in Oakland, California. Also, she graduated at the Jesuits' University of Santa Clara, in what is now Silicon Valley. Although she grew up in New Mexico, being in California for her is like coming home. Jeff Capaccio, the leader of the Silicon Valley Italian Executive Council and Vice President of NIAF, happened to be a fellow student of hers in Santa Clara.
