San Diego's Little Italy doesn't need much help promoting how hip it is. It already boasts authentic Italian eateries, art galleries and Wi-Fi-friendly cafes. But once a year, the Little Italy Association throws a giant festa, a free street celebration that invites the rest of the region to experience all the neighborhood has to offer.
The 19th annual event, which is expected to attract more than 100,000 people on Sunday, will spotlight everything from cannoli to Italian cars. This year's Little Italy Festa also features a tribute to Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, as well as New York opera singer Cristina Fontanelli. But it's the works of chalk art that make the event such a favorite.
