The Boston Marathon has been running continuously since 1897. It took 93 years for an Italian to win. That Italian is Gelindo Bordin, who finished first in 1990, with a time of 2:08:19.
Born in the northern Italian city of Vicenza in 1959, Bordin had previously won the marathon at the 1988 summer Olympics in Seoul, and is still today the only male in the history of the Boston marathon to have won both. He is also the last European athlete to have won the competition.
