Virginia’s potential next commitment has never played a second of AAU basketball, but he can speak four languages and is a talented pianist. The class of 2017’s Francesco Badocchi, described by his high school coach as a “well-kept secret,” is on a recruiting visit to UVa this week. The Cavaliers offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-7 forward on Thursday. Badocchi averaged 13.9 points last season for Rick Zych and Bishop Miege High School in Kansas.
“Since Frankie’s never played in an AAU tournament in his life, he was a well-kept secret,” Zych said Thursday. “So if you did not see us play and you weren’t in Kansas City, nobody really knew about him. And then the word spread quick. They’re saying ‘Who’d he play for in the summer?’ Well, he was in Italy.
