Illustrated lecture by San Francisco Opera Director of Music Administration, Kip Cranna who will explore with you two of Puccini's most beloved operas in two very different cinematic treatments.
Excerpts will be shown from the films La Boheme, Zefferelli's ground breaking 1985 film and Madama Butterfly, under Frederic Mitterand's unique direction. Mr. Cranna will introduce the films and show excerpts from them, pointing out musical highlights and emphasizing the ways in which the two media – opera and film – complement and transform each other.
