In Italy, the role of young people in agriculture is undergoing a significant transformation. In the second quarter of 2025, employment among workers under 35 in the farming sector increased by about 18% compared with the same period in 2024.
At the same time, youth employment in non-agricultural sectors (industry and services) declined by approximately 2%, underscoring how the farming field is bucking broader trends. The number of under-35s employed in agriculture reached roughly 122,000 during this period, indicating not just a marginal shift but a sizeable uptick in youth engagement in rural work.
