In late August, John Calipari stopped mid-sentence after he told a group of reporters that he "may try" to meet with President Donald Trump in the future. The Kentucky basketball coach cut his initial thought short to answer potential "stick to sports" reactions or questions about possibly agitating portions of the country or Wildcats' fan base.
"Look, my grandparents came through Ellis Island," Calipari said. "Didn’t speak English. My parents were high-school educated laborers. And I can sit down with presidents? ‘Well, you shouldn’t do it.’ Screw you. If I’ve got a chance to do it, I’m going to sit down with the president, whoever that president might be. Are you kidding me?"
