Westrafo, a fast-growing Italian manufacturer of electrical transformers, has opened its first American production site in Trotwood, Ohio. The new 200,000-square-foot facility, built on a 17-acre property, marks an important step in the company’s international expansion and its commitment to serve the North American market directly.
The plant will produce medium-voltage transformers and advanced energy solutions designed to support the renewable energy sector and the modernization of the U.S. power grid. Westrafo expects the operation to create about 230 new jobs in the region, contributing to local economic growth and strengthening ties between Italy and the United States.
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Montebello Vicentino, Westrafo has quickly evolved from a small Italian startup into a global player with multiple sites in Europe and Africa. The company’s American investment reflects both its strategic vision and its response to growing demand for reliable, sustainable energy infrastructure.
CEO Albert Cracco described the Trotwood opening as a natural step forward. He explained that manufacturing in the United States allows Westrafo to stay competitive amid trade shifts and tariff pressures, while ensuring faster delivery times and greater flexibility for American clients. The U.S. market, he added, is central to the company’s growth plan, with expectations to reach financial breakeven by 2026 and full return on investment within five years.
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and will follow the same standards of efficiency, precision, and environmental responsibility that define Westrafo’s “Made in Italy” approach. For Trotwood, the project represents not only a major industrial investment but also a symbol of revival and international collaboration, reinforcing the city’s role in the energy transition shaping the future of manufacturing in America.
