Voices on the walls of Pompeii: an ancient social network revealed

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

In the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, researchers have uncovered evidence that people living there more than 2,000 years ago were using public wall markings much like a primitive social network.

By using modern digital imaging on walls previously thought to be fully studied, archaeologists have been able to bring dozens of faded inscriptions back into clear view, revealing a vibrant web of personal messages, jokes, declarations, and drawings.
