Vernazza is one of the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre, perched along the Ligurian coast. A small harbour framed by tall pastel houses and terraced vineyards climbing the hills behind, it remains one of the most photographed corners of Italy. Officially recognised as one of Italy's most beautiful towns, Vernazza is compact, so everything is within walking distance.
The joy here is in short climbs, sea views and the way the village suddenly opens up onto the water. The small natural harbour is the heart of the village, edged by tall, narrow houses painted in soft pinks and yellows. Piazza Marconi sits just behind it, where you’ll find cafés spilling onto the square and locals taking an evening stroll.
