Italy and the United States reaffirmed the strength of their bilateral relationship during an official visit to Rome by a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress. At the Farnesina, Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli welcomed the American lawmakers for talks centered on security, technology and international cooperation.
The delegation was led by Representative Ronny Jackson, chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations. The bipartisan composition of the group underscored the broad support that relations with Italy continue to enjoy within the U.S. Congress.
Cirielli described cooperation between Rome and Washington as excellent, emphasizing the two countries’ shared strategic interests. The discussions followed Italy’s signing in Brindisi of the Pax Silica Declaration, a U.S.-promoted initiative designed to strengthen collaboration across advanced semiconductor supply chains. Italy’s participation creates further opportunities for bilateral work in innovation, technology security and resilient industrial networks.
The meeting also addressed Africa, where Italy and the United States share an interest in promoting stability, economic development and security. In 2026, Italy allocated more than 50% of its geographically designated development resources to initiatives involving African partners. Among the 38 priority countries identified by Italian development cooperation, 23 are in Africa.
Particular attention was given to the Horn of Africa, tensions generated by the crisis in Sudan and the security of the Red Sea’s maritime routes. Cirielli presented Italy’s security efforts and development programs as complementary tools for regional resilience.
The official congressional visit confirmed that the Italy–United States partnership extends beyond defense. It now increasingly includes advanced technology, development cooperation, infrastructure protection and coordinated responses to global instability.
