A protest that pressed for the removal of Christopher Columbus’ statue from a park named after the infamous explorer attracted a small crowd Thursday evening. Removal appears imminent although Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora plans a meeting and community discussion before rendering his decision.
For the record, emotions and thoughts concerning Columbus usually rest as entrenched ideas, not subject to change. No one fence-sits on Columbus, abortion or Donald Trump. So, this conversation about Columbus seems more like dog and pony show, a chance for Mayor Gusciora to offer diplomacy before the inevitability of Christopher sailing out of town.
