Today is World Radio Day, because it was February 13, 1946, 79 years ago, when the first UN radio broadcast went on the air. An international holiday but with Italian rootsfor what UNESCO says is an irreplaceable channel of information, support for the spread of culture and freedom of speech.
In 1895 Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi was already able to reach distances of about 2 km with a radio broadcast, and the following year he applied for a patent for radio telegraphy. In 1898 the distances increased to about 100 km, and in 1902 he made the first transmission across the Atlantic Ocean. This is considered the birth of radio.
