Today Roberto Bolle turns 50: an Italian symbol of dance all around the world

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Today, Roberto Bolle turns 50. He is a symbol of dance in Italy and around the world. Roberto was born in Casale Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria (Piedmont), on March 26, 1970. From a young age, he developed a passion for dance, enrolling in a dance school in Vercelli at the age of 6. Then, at 12, he auditioned for the Ballet School of La Scala, a theater that would soon become his home.

At 15, he was noticed during a rehearsal by Rudolf Nureyev, who informed the theater that he wanted him for the role of Tadzio in Death in Venice, a performance that would be brought to the Arena di Verona. However, La Scala forbade Bolle from accepting the offer, deeming him too young.
