Acentre for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and alcoholics would not be the first place one would think of looking for bespoke wallpapers, cashmere blankets and furniture. But when Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen first visited the San Patrignano Community in 2018, they could see, Moschino says, “the craftsmanship was extraordinary. We’d never been anywhere like it. We’ve worked with them ever since.”
Founded near Rimini in Italy in 1978 by the far-sighted social entrepreneur Vincenzo Muccioli, who believed in the power of creative work as an instrument of social redemption, San Patrignano started out as commune in which addicts could live and be taught skills that would allow them to start a new life.
