Italy could become the second country after Switzerland to test a solar power plant installed directly between the rails of an active railway line. The proposal follows promising results from a Swiss pilot developed by Sun-Ways, a startup based in the canton of Neuchâtel.
Sun-Ways has signed a collaboration agreement with an unnamed Italian commercial partner that is in contact with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the company responsible for managing Italy’s national rail infrastructure. A possible Italian pilot project is now under discussion, although no location, construction date or final authorization has been announced.
