Teaching the history of Italian emigration in schools

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

The Italian Ministry of Education and Merit has encouraged schools across the country to include the history of Italian emigration as part of their educational programs for the 2025–2026 academic year.

In a recent communication to all public and private institutions, the Ministry highlighted the importance of dedicating space in the curriculum to a topic that shaped Italy’s national identity and influenced societies around the world. Although not a mandatory requirement, the Ministry’s message strongly urges schools to explore this subject in ways suited to their own educational plans.
