The so-called art bonus — a 65% tax break for art-related donations — was an experimental measure adopted in 2014 for three years that was made permanent in Italy's most recent budget law. The incentive has already created a significant group of patrons.
As of last January, more than 2,000 of them (between private citizens and businesses) had contributed a total of €62 million to finance 500 maintenance and restoration projects.
