The exhibit showcases the Italian American experience in Solano County of immigrants who arrived in California between the 1850s and 1950s and the generations who live here today. From immigration journeys to family traditions passed down through the generations, the exhibit explores the voices and stories of the Italian American community which define that experience.
The exhibition maps the roots of local families across 10 distinct Italian regions. And chronicles the three waves of immigration and transatlantic steerage travel. Its an invitation for visitors to reflect on identity, belonging, and the immigrant experience that connects us all.
Among the rare artifacts and personal treasures featured are a 1903 miniature Bible carried by a 9-year-old Pierina Canclini, and tactile stations with historical Po Valley flax cloth. Each week features different interactive activities including children’s parties, pasta making, poetry, painting, Italian festival, crafts, opera and book talks.
