Young travelers are changing the way food and tourism interact, and Italy may be one of the countries best positioned to benefit. The emerging trend is called “snackpacking” – planning part of a trip around local snacks, street food, bakeries, neighborhood markets, and regional specialties rather than concentrating exclusively on restaurants or famous attractions.
According to the 2026 Global Travel Trends Report, 89% of Millennials and Gen Z travelers surveyed consider it important to leave space in their itineraries for local snacks.
