River Edge Church Hosts Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit Inspired by First Millennial Saint

By: Sean Quinn

Catholics from across North Jersey are visiting St. Peter the Apostle Church in River Edge to experience a traveling exhibit inspired by St. Carlo Acutis, the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint, highlighting Eucharistic miracles. The exhibit remains open through Sunday, April 12.

Visitors begin by learning about Acutis, a computer-savvy Italian teenager who cataloged more than 100 Eucharistic miracles on a website he created before his death from leukemia at age 15 in 2006. The exhibit then presents more than 65 Church-recognized miracles, supernatural phenomena associated with consecrated hosts or wine. An optional audio tour is available via QR code. The full experience takes about one hour.

“I’m very pleased with the impact this exhibit is having, especially seeing families come together to grow in their faith,” said Father Andrew J. DeSilva, pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Church. “I hope visitors leave with a renewed devotion to Christ’s presence in the Eucharist and in our world. These miracles remind us that the Lord loves us and is always with us.”

The exhibit is also a teaching opportunity for students at St. Peter Academy, where Acutis is presented as model of faith for young people. Students toured and explored the exhibit privately to engage more deeply with the material. They also participated in an outdoor Holy Thursday ceremony in which unused holy oils from the past year were returned to the earth. Afterward, the students sang a hymn in Italian in honor of Acutis.

“I thought it was fascinating to learn about these miracles, like the time a host started to bleed,” said Mason Villagomez, a sixth-grade student, referring to a 2006 miracle in Tixtla, Mexico. “I encourage other kids to see the exhibit because it’s very informative. If you like St. Carlo Acutis, then this is your place.”
