By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

From adhesive bandages and syringes to artificial joints, diagnostic scanners and clinical software, Italy’s medical device industry encompasses an extraordinarily diverse range of products. It is also a strategic part of the national economy, combining advanced manufacturing, scientific research, digital innovation and essential services for hospitals, clinics and patients.

In 2024, Italy’s domestic medical device market reached €13.3 billion, rising 5.7% from the previous year. Public healthcare remained its principal engine, accounting for 75% of total demand and approximately €10 billion in spending. Private healthcare generated the remaining €3.3 billion, equal to 25% of the market. When exports are included, the industry’s overall economic value rises to approximately €18.5 billion.
