The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, and the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University have launched the 22nd edition of Premio New York.
This prestigious international program selects 2 emerging visual artists to complete a 5-month creative fellowship in the United States, running from February 1 through June 30, 2027.
Fellows will be based at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, where 100% of their studio space is provided alongside access to dynamic cultural networks across Manhattan. Selected creators will collaborate closely with Columbia University, engage with major institutional stakeholders, and conclude the 150-day residency by presenting their artistic research at an end-of-term exhibition.
Candidates must be Italian citizens residing in Italy, born after December 31, 1991, possess fluent English proficiency, and have at least 1 documented solo show. Recipients obtain comprehensive assistance in securing a J-1 exchange visitor visa, with an arrival window starting January 25, 2027, to finalize official paperwork and register for a Social Security number.
An international evaluation committee will assess submissions, grading candidates on portfolio quality, exhibition record, and proposal viability. Formal application materials must be transmitted exclusively via certified email (PEC) before September 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM CET. This targeted grant represents a top-tier platform for emerging talent to expand creative practices within one of the world’s leading art hubs.
