Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò offered a warm setting last night for an evening dedicated to the music of Pino Daniele, the unique Neapolitan singer-songwriter whose blend of blues, jazz, and Mediterranean soul, and his unmistakable singing voice made him one of Italy’s most beloved musical artists.
The concert, Keep on Movin’, presented jazz-inflected readings of several of his best-known songs — an ambitious premise, and one clearly inspired by genuine affection for the material. The musicians, Adam Birnbaum, Chiara Izzi, Jonathan Lowery, Nicola Corso, Nick Biello, Austin Ford, Marcello Cardillo, and David Gibson brought evident enthusiasm to their task, and the intimate venue suited the occasion well.
