The North End Historical Society of Boston (NEHS) plans to open the doors of a new museum this June to chronicle the neighborhood’s over 400 years of history. At a presentation on Feb. 18, NEHS President Tom Damigella spoke to around 30 North End residents and enthusiasts at the neighborhood’s branch of the Boston Public Library.
Damigella shared detailed design plans and announced they have to raise $80,000 before opening to meet a $400,000 operational fund goal. “We want to be the jewel of the North End,” Damigella told gathered supporters. Damigella believes it crucial to open the museum’s doors ahead of a busy Boston summer with the celebration of the 250th signing of the Declaration of Independence, the arrival of Sail Boston’s tall ships in the harbor, and FIFA World Cup revelers in City Hall Plaza.
