Maritime tourism brings record passenger flows to Italian ports

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italy’s relationship with the sea extends far beyond its beaches. A new national report has measured cruise travel, ferry transportation and recreational boating as parts of a single tourism ecosystem, revealing that Italian ports recorded more than 100 million passenger movements in 2025.

The first Report on Maritime Tourism in Italy, prepared by the research and consulting firm Risposte Turismo, examines a sector that had previously been divided among separate statistical categories. Its broader approach shows how maritime travel connects ports, coastal destinations, islands and inland communities while generating business for hotels, restaurants, transportation companies, tour operators, shipyards and local retailers.
